13 Jan Jack and Rose Win Big in the Golden Globes. Who are Jack and Rose Again?

JUAN SAYS: Jack and Rose, or in real life they are Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet win big time in the recently concluded Golden Globe awards. We have high respects for both actors, after their successful stint as Jack and Rose in the epic movie Titanic which was shown 18 years back. If we remember it correctly, the theme song of the movie “My heart will go on” occupied the No. 1 spot on the radio, and the movie itself has reaped countless awards and nominations in the Oscars. But what bothers us today is the lack of connection between epic movies and its association to the actors and the readers on the world wide web. We were looking for more Jack and Kate posts because of this big win, but we only found a few. Maybe the new generation did not see the movie, maybe they don’t know who Kate Winslet and Leonardo di Caprio are? Jack and Rose, who could forget that.

We the 30-somethings and 40-somethings are very passionate with Jack and Rose, we grew up with them and just like you, wanted them to be together forever. But maybe life had other plans, and yes they did let go. We gushed at seeing them in the Golden Globes saying hello to each other and relieving those moments when they would come to the awards hand in hand. And that hug from Kate Winslet after Leo’s win was priceless.

Here are a couple of movie dialogues from Titanic that help shape who we are today, the GenX people we mean.

Jack: Listen, Rose. You’re gonna get out of here, you’re gonna go on and you’re gonna make lots of babies, and you’re gonna watch them grow. You’re gonna die an old… an old lady warm in her bed, not here, not this night. Not like this, do you understand me?

Rose: I can’t feel my body.

Jack: Winning that ticket, Rose, was the best thing that ever happened to me… it brought me to you. And I’m thankful for that, Rose. I’m thankful. You must do me this honor. Promise me you’ll survive. That you won’t give up, no matter what happens, no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, Rose, and never let go of that promise.

Rose: I promise.

Jack: Never let go.

Rose: I’ll never let go, Jack. I’ll never let go.

JUAN SAYS: Maybe the two did let go. They led different lives, grew older and Leo a few pounds heavier, but we understood what “never letting go” meant during those days. We held on to our dreams, to relationships we felt that were “the one” knowing that there was something beautiful in our futures. And look at where we are now. Some of us are living our once upon a time dreams, and some of us are about to get there. We are thankful for this memory, this reminder from Jack and Rose. We don’t let go. We work on it.

Cal Hockley: Where are you going? To him? To be a whore to a gutter rat?

Rose: I’d rather be his whore than your wife.

JUAN SAYS: The rise of feminism and what it really stands for is coming true today, thanks to this little reminder from Rose that we can’t be forced into something that we don’t really approve of. We’d rather be at our lowest than to live a life of misery. We love this. Some of us idealist women would rather be single rather than settle for someone who isn’t worthy of our time. Yep many of us are still single, and are still refusing to settle.

Jack: I’m the king of the world!

JUAN SAYS: We say this all the time, don’t we?

Jack: Well, yes, ma’am, I do… I mean, I got everything I need right here with me. I got air in my lungs, a few blank sheets of paper. I mean, I love waking up in the morning not knowing what’s gonna happen or, who I’m gonna meet, where I’m gonna wind up. Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge and now here I am on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people. I figure life’s a gift and I don’t intend on wasting it. You don’t know what hand you’re gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you… to make each day count.

JUAN SAYS: This line says it all about life. One day you are down, and the next day you are up. Do not waste your life, deal with the hand you are dealt with. Everything is temporary.

Rose: Jack, I want you to draw me like one of your French girls. Wearing this…

Jack: All right.

Rose: Wearing *only* this.

JUAN SAYS: Don’t we all still want to wear the Le Coeur de la Mer? And only that.

Rose: Hello Jack. I changed my mind. They said you might be out here.

Jack: Shhh. Gimme your hand. Now close your eyes, go on. Now step up. Now hold on to the railing. Keep your eyes closed, don’t peek.

Rose: I’m not.

Jack: Step up on the railing. Hold on, hold on. Keep your eyes closed. Do you trust me?

Rose: I trust you.

[Jack opens Rose’s arms]

Jack: All right. Open your eyes.

Rose: [gasp] I’m flying, Jack!

JUAN SAYS: Trust. Such an abused word today.

Rose: It’s so unfair.

Ruth: Of course it’s unfair. We’re women. Our choices are never easy.

JUAN SAYS: It isn’t easy even today. When you are nice, you become the push over. When you are relentless with the things you do, you are the bitch. Where then do we place ourselves?
