05 May UA HOVR: Technology Meets Comfort for a Better Stride

We love shoes. We love functional shoes even more. Functional we mean shoes that can support your workout needs without sacrificing style for comfort. Let’s face facts, Under Armour is known for its technology giving many athletes the very thing that they have been asking for from other brands for their training needs. Under Armour has it in the bag. Given the chance to wear the newest shoes from Under Armour – the Hover Phantom, we didn’t hesitate one bit.

Under Armour promised a high-performance footwear with its newest cushioning technology called the HOVR. It combines comfort, underfoot cushioning and cushioning platform that provides comfort when running. It also boasts of “Energy Web,” a mesh fabric that wraps the cushioning core, to deliver strong responsiveness and energy return. This ideal combination of advantages makes runners feel better and perform better with less fatigue. Makes you wanna run around the village, doesn’t it? Well, we did just that.

We took our pair of Phantoms for a spin and Under Armour delivers yet again, this time with feelings. We were sure that the Phantoms would be as comfortable as we imagined it would be. Every stride we took felt landing on a pillow, and every time we lifted our foot was another step we wanted to take further. The Phantom has become our workout partner, both in the gym and yes, running around the village.

When designing UA HOVR, we set out to create the perfect combination of cushioning plus responsiveness and energy return –to essentially lift you up,” said Dave Dombrow, Under Armour’s Chief Design Officer. “The HOVR underfoot returns that energy and makes every stride feel light and effortless. I could not be more proud of this product and for HOVR to usher in a new chapter in the Under Armour design and innovation story.”

Weighing in at 9.6oz / 272g, with an 8mm offset, the UA HOVR Sonic has a light and responsive ride, for runners who put distance first. The UA HOVR Phantom weighs 10.6oz / 300.5g and has a plush and responsive ride, for runners who want all-around cushioning. With the UA HOVR Phantom, UA leveraged its apparel DNA to create a knitted collar for superior comfort and adaptation around the ankle with a 5/8” collar and knitted sock-like feel.

Triathlete JV Wong finished the recent Ironman in Davao donning the UA Hovr Sonic

We got the chance to talk to JV Wong, a seasoned triathlete who also tried the pair of UA Hovr – Sonic. She said: “After thelaunch, I started to already use my UA HOVR during my sprint and long distance runs as I train for Alveo IM70.3 Davao, slated for March 25. As mentioned, I am used to wearing other brands — yet I am pleasantly surprised with how this particular product — UA HOVR SONIC — just fit me so right. It’s light, well-cupped with my feet, and unassumingly powerful.”

Mainit lang talaga sa mata as we were wearing red running shoes. People would literally stop us and ask what shoes were we wearing. And you could see the look on their faces when we said Under Armour. The HOVR indeed was a sight to behold.
