05 Mar Search for MUTYA BARBIE Ka-Look-A-Like
JUAN SAYS: Mutya Barbie is out in the market now, but only 4,400 pieces will be sold. As part of its Global Glamour collection, the Mutya Barbie was released. Inspired by the heritage of its designer Carlyle Nuera, a Fil-American, the doll wears the traditional Philippine terno in pink.
“The organza’s print references textiles of the different tribes in the Philippines, as well as the sun from the [Philippine] flag.” Nuera continues saying, “The embroidery on the hem is inspired by the sampaguita, a jasmine flower that is the national flower of the Philippines.”
Surely it takes a Filipino to understand how it is to make the Philippine terno, making sure that it is reflective of our culture, our traditions and who we are as people. Salamat, hindi nagmukhang Rainbow Brite si Mutya! Upon looking at the doll, we silently wished that Matel made her gown(s). At the very least our Mutya Barbie looks what it is supposed to look like, a doll representing the Filipina beauty, NOT Rainbow Brite, 3-in-1 ice cream ng Selecta, sapin-sapin, eskayola sa ibabaw ng cake, and whatever comparison you may have in mind of the infamous gown worn by MJ Lastimosa to the last Miss Universe competition. After all, she was named after the beauty title and the many other titles in local competitions: Mutya ng Pilipinas, Mutya ng Dabaw, Mutya ng Ilog Pasig, Mutya ng Smokey Mountain. Basta Mutya, muse, beautiful. Yun na yun.
We have been staring at Mutya Barbie’s face for quite sometime and we still can’t figure out who her face was modeled after. One of us thinks it’s Lara Quigaman, another thinks it’s Miriam Quiambao, and another swears by Princess Punzalan. Now that’s classic!
Who do you think Mutya looks like? Please do tell us and end our agony! In the comments below, please write your answer from the following choices:
A. Hindi naka-hit-hit ng katol na Marlene Aguilar
B. Pina-morenang Pia Cayetano
C. Miriam Quiambao
D. Precious Lara Quigaman
E. Pincess Punzalan
F. Sige-na-ipinagpipilitang-isama-na-siya-sa-hilera Nancy Binay.
From the answer with the highest number of votes, we shall choose one winner to receive one gallon of 3-in-1 ice cream.
