JUAN SAYS: Set to represent the country in Mr. International, policeman Neil Perez is proud to be wearing Filipino-designed garments in the said competition on February 12 in Seoul, South Korea. Only a Filipino will be able to showcase the authenticity and creativity that is innately Filipino, as we have painstakingly learned in the last Miss Universe competition. (READ: Stella Araneta defends MJ’s Sapin-Sapin Costume) We are grateful that pageant organizers of Mr. International Philippines stood their ground and commissioned Filipino designer Edwin Uy to make the national costume. Edwin pays tribute to the Dinagyang Festival with a stylized orange loincloth, feathered headdress and neckpiece, though the last two elements are totally unnecessary. But yeah for propriety’s sake, we go with the feathers. Hala Bira!
