JUAN SAYS: It is with much appreciation that we receive Chairman Iqbal in the Senate hearing of the Mamasapano incident yesterday. Yes, Mr. Iqbal, we couldn’t thank you enough. Thank you for gracing the very important (to say the least) hearing with your ‘almost-royalty’ presence. Entitled ampotah. Kung maka-thank you tayo parang utang na loob pa talaga ng Senado na dumating si Iqbal. But that is not exactly the point that we are trying to make here.

JUAN SAYS: Dear Mr. Iqbal, if you have listened to yourself and to your comrades who have been present during the senate hearings on the Mamasapano incident, much less the hearings on the Bangsamoro Basic Law, maybe you would have regarded yourself as a tape recorder. You have become historical. Heck, you are historical. Your people are hysterical.

In all your statements, you have reiterated the oppression, which the Muslims have received from the Spaniards some 300 years ago. You were driven out of Manila and key cities in the Philippines, la-la-la. Mr. Iqbal, with due respect sir, that happened 300 years ago, because the whole world was at war, for crying out loud. Don’t you think it is time to move on? You continue your tales of oppression through the Japanese time, the Martial Law era, etc.

Sure you were oppressed. Sure you were robbed of your so-called right to the ‘land of your forefathers,’ etc. etc., but isn’t it you (the MILF and other armed Moro ‘freedom fighters’) who have been oppressing Muslim Mindanao by setting off bombs, destroying establishments, government projects, highways, that could have brought betterment to the lives of the people in the Bangsamoro area? We are one with Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on this. In our humblest opinions Mr. Iqbal, you brought the oppression to your people, and you brought oppression to yourselves.

Mr. Iqbal, it is with much regret that we would like to inform you that oppression is not your enemy. You are your own enemy. When things didn’t go your way, you have decided to take up arms and fight with the government troops at the expense of many innocent people. Lives were lost, and you once raved about it as your accomplishments. Your tales of oppression which dates back to tra-la-la are enough proof that you have entrapped yourself in anger, in the sad past, in a history which all of you could have moved on from, made better lives, educated your troops, teaching them livelihood, instead of making them bandits and teaching them that for every breath they take away is a “golden ticket” to heaven (more on this in the next article).

Reality check Mr. Iqbal, life was never fair, not for the Muslims that you say you represent (which we all doubt), not for the Christians, not for anyone. We all have our share of dark past, every family in this country has their own share of oppression and heartbreaking stories, but unlike you, many of us chose to fight life and move on.

So Mr. Iqbal, it is not oppression that is your enemy, it is your illusion of oppression, your illusion that for every bad deed bestowed upon you, someone has to pay. You have dug a grave for yourself. For many years you have kept on digging and digging and digging. And when you were given the chance to leave in peace, this incident blows right on your face, and you have nowhere to go. Please do not threaten us that if the BBL doesn’t pass in Congress, you remain to be a revolutionary organization. Ano bang bago doon? And any form of threat will be perceived as a terrorist action. So if you wish for us to stop calling you terrorists, then stop acting like one goddammit!
