04 Feb PNoy’s pep talk met with silence
The President tries to comfort the members of the PNP-Special Action Force by calling the ‘enemies’ halang ang bituka.
Wala tayong masasabi sa dedication sa trabaho,” he said.
The President even went as far as telling the PNP-SAF that he understands what they are going through, because of what he himself experienced when he was young.
He said he was the one who ordered them to go back to Malacanang and try to protect his mother, President Corazon Aquino, and his sisters.
He was already near Arlegui, when his convoy was ambushed. He took several bullets, one of which remains lodged in his neck until now.
“Pag-uwi ko, tinanong ko ang sarili ko. Kung hindi kami lumabas, buhay kaya sila?”
He said what happened to him, including the death of his father, made him realize that “life is important.”
He said losing soldiers is all part of the struggle.
He said he will try his best to boost the morale of the SAF men after what happened.
“Hindi ako mahilig [makinig] sa sarili ko… baka may gusto kayong sabihin, please feel free to speak up,” he said in his more than six-minute pep talk.
Aquino was met with silence, however.
“Sigurado kayo? Baka nagkakahiyaan tayo rito. Hindi tayo dapat magkahiyaan. Hindi tayo magkakaunawaan kung magkikimkim tayo,” Aquino said after none of the SAF members in front of him accepted his invitation to speak up about the bloody incident.
