11 Feb JUAN Questions: Bakit SAF pa rin ang pinadala?
Editor’s note: Digesting the proceedings of the Senate hearing on the Mamasapano incident which led to the death of the 44 SAF troopers, we are posting this series of questions from the public with the hopes that Senators and Congress would probe into. Let the voice of the people be heard.
JUAN SAYS: When the news of the #Fallen44 broke out that uneventful Monday morning, this was amongst our initial questions: “why use the SAF?” Sure the SAF is one of the highly trained and highly elite groups of the Philippine National Police but as DILG Secretary Mar Roxas admitted, “wala kaming helicopter, wala kaming air asset, wala kaming armor, wala kaming artillery, wala kaming mortar. Ang tagumpay ng isang maselan at komplikado at peligrosong operation na ito ay nakasalalay din sa availability ng resources na ito na hindi naming hawak.”
It didn’t make sense to us in January, and it still doesn’t make sense to us three weeks hence. Furthermore, knowing all these things, the government still pursued using the SAF (who also admitted that they purposely didn’t coordinate with the AFP before hand who has all the machinery needed should a problem arise, because this was part of the grand plan of Oplan Wolverine) in the said high-risk operation, thinking that the SAF was bulletproof and would be singing ‘Titanium” as they march out of the area unscathed.
